A few weeks ago, I attended an amazing workshop with mindfulness guru and therapist extraordinaire, Joree Rose. On the whiteboard, the above quote was written, and it immediately spoke to me. I felt empowered and strong, with the knowledge that this is MY race, and no one else’s. Throughout the day, and into the days that followed, I kept repeating the saying, as a mantra.
When you stop trying to “keep up with the Jones’s”, and have gratitude for your own race, and journey, your perspective changes. There is a vast array of emotions in that middle place of comparing yourself to others. You may not feel like you measure up, you may not be seeing the tapestry of beauty and color that is woven all around you, and you may be missing out on the parts of the journey that make yours in particular, so unique.
What if you were able to appreciate all of the steps of the journey? Instead of “I’ll appreciate that after I get my tax return.” Or, “I’ll book that trip to Italy when I turn 50.” What if you took little steps toward what you are desiring with all of your heart every single day? Try practicing a little step today… write down what it is you are wanting to accomplish on a piece of paper, and tape it next to your desk, or bathroom mirror. Every day, write down a little step that you took to achieve that goal, dream or accomplishment. It’s something to look forward to, show gratitude for, and will be a chronicle of your particular journey, when you step on that plane to Italy, or whatever your goal or achievement may be! Start today…. and let every step is a celebration of your race!
